Heated Bathroom Floors: Worth It in the Pacific Northwest?

By Aleksey Kushchuk, White Saber · Last updated 2026-11-03

Short answer: Yes, for most people who add it. Radiant heat under bathroom tile takes the chill off cold Northwest mornings. It is easiest and cleanest to add during a remodel, when the floor is open and tile is going down anyway.

How it works

Thin heating elements go under the tile and run off a thermostat, often on a timer so the floor is warm when you wake up.

Best time to add it

During a remodel. Adding it later means pulling up the tile.

What to decide

A few choices shape the install.

  • Which part of the floor to heat
  • Thermostat and timer placement
  • Tile type over the heat

Pairs well with

Large-format tile, patterned tile, and towel warmers.
